Pre-Med

The NW Washington Medical Society Scholarship was established for pre-med students at Western Washington University (WWU). One $1800 scholarship will be awarded in 2024-25 to a qualified WWU student who is pursuing a pre-med pathway.

Eligibility & Criteria

1. Pursuing a curriculum in preparation to attend medical school
2. Completion of 90 or more credits
3. “B” grades or better in Chemistry 351, Physics 114 or 161, and Biology 206
4. Minimum 3.5 GPA

Application Procedure:

Submitted materials must include:

1. Completed scholarship application form, which requires you to upload the following materials:
   1. Resume
   2. An application letter to the NW Washington Medical Society Scholarship Committee addressing your academic and professional goals. Why are you passionate about the medical field?
   3. Unofficial copy of your WWU transcript

At least one, but no more than two, letters of recommendation, emailed separately, from a professional reference (professor or instructor, supervisor, coach, advisor) who knows your intellect, maturity, character, personal circumstances, and/or experience. (Letters cannot come from someone on the scholarship committee.)
   1. Faculty can write a standard letter of recommendation and send it via email to Erika Wiescher at wiesche@wwu.edu

Deadline:

November 1st, 2024 at 5:00pm. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the letter(s) of recommendation are emailed and that all other application materials are submitted via the online scholarship application form by the deadline. Note: Be prepared to meet with the NW Washington Medical Society if requested.

Two $2250 scholarship awards are available for 2024-2025. Selection is based on demonstration of significant financial need (as defined by FAFSA or WASFA), exceptional academic credentials, and a strong motivation to become a physician.

   2. An application letter to the Dr. Ralph and Mrs. Eleanor Rinne Pre-Med Scholarship Committee addressing your motivation to become a physician. Why are you passionate about the medical field? What activities have you pursued that indicate a commitment to medicine?
   3. Unofficial copy of your WWU transcript
