Free Tax Return Help is Available
IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), which has been helping taxpayers for over 50 years, is available to assist in filing a tax return. The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. They provide in person tax assistance (Academic West Room 306 on the 2nd floor, free parking after 4:30) or you can link to the self-preparation tax information on their website.
VITA will operate 4:30-7pm on the following dates:
- February: 11, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25
March: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11
April: 1, 6, 7, 8
Other Tax Filing Options are listed under Additional Resources on the VITA website (Whatcom Community College or other free tax filing sites can be found using the IRS search locator by zip code).
Important Tax Information:
- Consult the IRS website to view all the rules and details for tax benefits for education.
- If you are unsure if you have to file a 2025 tax return, review the information on the IRS website. You may still file even if you are not required to file.
- To access the 1098-T Tuition Statement, students should go to Web4U ⇨ Student Accounts ⇨ Western Account Online. From there they will be logged into the CashNet portal and may access records by clicking on the tax record tab on the left- hand menu. Any questions about the 1098-T should be directed to the Student Business Office at sbo@wwu.edu or 360.650.2865.
