2024-2025 Creating Hope Scholarship Application

This $2,000 scholarship recognizes the achievements of WWU students who are Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) filers.

Scholarship Qualifications:

  • Student must have completed a Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) for the 2024-2025 academic year. 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student during the 2024 fall quarter at WWU with plans to enroll for the remainder of the 2024-2025 academic year.

2024-2025 Lester R. Huntsinger Scholarship

This $6,000 scholarship is intended to support Western undergraduate students, who are first-generation college students that are pursuing a double major in Economics and Political Science.

Scholarship Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate WWU student who is currently enrolled for Fall Quarter 2024 with plans to enroll for the remainder of the 2024-2025 academic year (Winter and Spring quarters).

  • Junior or Senior status as of Fall Quarter 2024.

  • Must be declared as a major in either Economics or Political Science and a minor in either Economics or Political Science. 

  • Preference for declared double major in Economics and Political Science at WWU. 

  • Preference will be given to students from diverse backgrounds and/or first-generation college students.

2024-2025 Non-Traditional Student Scholarship Application

Western Washington University offers a scholarship program for non-traditional students. This scholarship is funded through the WWU tuition waiver program. The Non-Traditional Scholarship (in combination with other tuition waivers, scholarships, or awards) cannot exceed the cost of tuition on a quarterly basis. The scholarship will be awarded for winter and spring quarters of 2025.

Scholarship Qualifications:

  • Washington State resident.
  • Applicant must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at WWU (post-baccalaureate and graduate students are ineligible) who intends to be enrolled for winter and spring quarters of 2025.
  • The Non-Traditional Student Scholarship cannot be used for Outreach and Continuing Education coursework, including, but not limited to, online, self-paced, TESOL, recreation courses, and study abroad, including faculty-led programs.)
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
  • Financial need as defined by the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).
  • Meet at least one of the non-traditional student criteria as defined on page 2 of this application.

2024-2025 Karen Copetas Believe and Achieve Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship recognizes a Western student who has made exceptional contributions in support of the University’s efforts to enroll a bright, diverse and inspired undergraduate student body.  This award was established in 2012 by friends to honor Karen and carry forward her legacy of going the extra mile in making a difference in the lives of others.

2024-2025 Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) Scholarship

Western Washington University has included in its design for excellence the need to support diversity in its student body, faculty, and staff. The Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) Scholarship is an important component of the university’s effort to diversify its student body. Students awarded the MAP Scholarship by the Office of Admissions are not eligible for this MAP Scholarship for continuing students in the same year. The MAP scholarship is funded through the WWU tuition waiver program. In combination with other tuition waivers, tuition waiver scholarships or awards cannot exceed the cost of tuition on a quarterly basis. 

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student 
  • Enrolled for Winter Quarter 2024 and currently enrolled for Spring Quarter 2024 at WWU with plans to enroll for all three quarters of the 2024-2025 academic year at WWU. 
  • The MAP Scholarship cannot be used for Outreach & Continuing Education, including, but not limited to, online, self-paced, TESOL, RN to BSN, recreation courses and study abroad, including faculty-led programs.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.30. 
  • Applicants must demonstrate solid academic abilities, strong leadership qualities, and a commitment to multicultural issues and activities in school or the community.
  • Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by information submitted on the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

ADEI Unit: Undocumented Student Support Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who contributes to the undocumented community at Western through thier work, volunteerism, and/or stuides in a way that enhances culturally centered programs, provides a sense of community, and/or furthers social justice for the undocumented community.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be in good academic standing the the end of winter quarter 2023.

Associated Students (AS) Diversity Award Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship is awarded to a student representative of and/or who has made significant efforts to promote activism, awareness, and enthusiasm for diversity issues.

To be considered for this scholarship:

  • Applicants must be a full-time WWU student (12 undergraduate or 8 Graduate credits quarterly) for at least two quarters of the 2023-2024 Academic Year and attend at least one quarter the year of the award (2024-2025).
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing at the end of Winter Quarter 2024.
  • All completed application materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024.
  • Note: Applicants are encouraged to apply for as many of the AS Scholarships they choose but each student is limited to receiving one AS Scholarship per academic year.

2024-2025 Vernon Damani “Dr. J” Johnson Scholarship

Dr. Vernon Damani Johnson (Dr. J.) is a beloved teacher, mentor, scholar, advocate and friend to countless alumni, 

colleagues, and community members. This $1,000 scholarship was established in 2021 in anticipation of Dr. 

Johnson’s retirement to honor the important way that he has shaped so many lives through his dedication to teaching, social justice and racial equity.

Scholarship Qualifications

- Full-time undergraduate Western Washington University students.
- Preference made to applicants who demonstrate, in descending order of priority:

  • A commitment for social justice activism demonstrated, for example, through volunteerism, work, or internships with governmental or non-profit agencies.
  • Financial need, as determined by information submitted on the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).
  • Outstanding academic merit as determined on a year-to-year basis.

This $2,000 scholarship is intended to support students who are actively participating on the WWU men’s rugby club sports team as a fully-registered member.

Qualifications:

  • Student must be actively participating on the men’s rugby club sports team as a fully registered member.
  • Preference will be given in the following order to students who: 
  1. Demonstrate financial need, as determined by information submitted on the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). 
  2. Demonstrate academic merit.
