Associated Students (AS) Jack Smith Student Leadership Scholarship

One $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student leader who supports the Associated Students at WWU. The recipient demonstrates financial need and a commitment to the Associated Students of WWU as exhibited by their involvement in Associated Students government, organizations, or student clubs.  

To be considered for this scholarship:

  • Applicants must be a full-time WWU student (12 undergraduate or 8 Graduate credits quarterly) for at least two quarters of the 2023-2024 Academic Year and attend at least one quarter the year of the award (2024-2025).
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and commitment to leadership in the AS and be in good academic standing as of the end of winter quarter 2024.
  • All completed application materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday May 27, 2024.
  • Note: Applicants are encouraged to apply for as many of the AS Scholarships they choose but each student is limited to receiving one AS Scholarship per academic year.

2024-2025 WWU Retirement Association Scholarship

The Western Washington University Retirement Association offers a $1,500 scholarship to students who will be in their second year of school in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Qualifications:

  • Admitted as a freshman (not transfer) at WWU for Fall 2023 or Winter 2024 and have completed no more than 36 credits at the end of Winter 2024. 
  • Must have been enrolled for Winter Quarter 2024 and currently enrolled for Spring Quarter 2024 at WWU with plans to enroll all three quarters of the 2024-2025 academic year. 
  • A cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.70. 
  • Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by information submitted on the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

ADEI Unit: Brentwood Slide Memorial Scholarship

Brentwood Slide was an energetic activist in the LGBTQ+ community in Whatcom County. Brentwood served as Emperor 15 of the Evergreen Empire and was devoted to fundraising and building community. When Brentwood passed away due to complications of HIV/AIDS, the Evergreen Empire created a lasting tribute to his memory in the form of a scholarship to continue the education of students with an interest in the LGBTQ+ community at Western Washington University.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate engagement and leadership in support of LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Demonstrate potential for academic success and ability to positively impact LGBTQ+ communities in the future.
  • Be in good academic standing at the end of winter quarter 2023.
  • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated financial need as demonstrated on the 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

Summer Session 2024 Scholarship Application

The Summer Session Scholarship is a $1000 tuition waiver which is applicable toward Summer Session 2024 tuition for the selected undergraduate recipients that are planning to enroll in a minimum of 12 credits of summer session coursework either in Bellingham and/or online.

Qualifications:

    • Applicants must be admitted to Western
    • Full time matriculated undergraduate students (taking a minimum of 12 credits) through Summer Session at WWU or admitted college transfers intending to become a full time Western student Summer 2024
    • GPA minimum cumulative of 3.0 (this will include winter 2024 grades)
    • Applicants must be pursuing their first undergraduate degree
    • Applicants must submit FAFSA or WASFA for scholarship consideration
    • International students may apply

WWU Alumni Association Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

The Western Alumni Association is proud to offer Western students the opportunity to receive the WWU Alumni Association Scholarship for Undergraduate Students. Recipients of this honor are students who are making a difference in their communities, and contributing greatly to Western by actively participating in the life of the university.

Western Alumni are world leaders, and many credit this success to their Western experience. We know that as a Western student you are destined to join this successful alumni community, so the graduates of our university want to help you succeed … and one way is through student scholarships support.

Applicants need not be related to or know any alumni to apply.

The scholarship awards will be for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Scholarship Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be one of the following:
    --Full time Western student (taking a minimum of 12 credits)
    --High school senior intending to become a full-time Western student    
       beginning Fall 2021
    --College transfer intending to become a full time Western student beginning 
       Fall 2021
  • GPA minimum cumulative:
    --Currently in college - GPA of 3.10
    --Currently in high school - GPA of 3.50
  • Applicants must be pursuing undergraduate study
  • Applicants must be admitted to Western to receive the scholarship
  • Applicants must submit FAFSA or WASFA for scholarship consideration*

*International or undocumented students may apply, please follow the instructions within the application.

Eligibility:

  • This is a need-based scholarship to fill need, not exceed it

Priority Consideration: 

  • Preference will be given to those with financial need
  • Active students within their community, who participate in leadership building activities, provide service to others, and succeed academically

2024-2025 Susan Brown Advancing Technology Education Scholarship

The Advancing Technology Education Scholarship was created by Western employees and former employees who support the advancement of technology literacy. In 2016 the scholarship was named after Susan Brown in honor of her contributions for advancing technology education at Western. For the upcoming year, the scholarship will award $1,500 to a student who has taught, tutored, or mentored other Western students on a technology or a technology literacy skill.

Qualifications:

  • The applicant must be attending Western at least half-time.
  • Post-Baccalaureate students are eligible.
  • Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.

ADEI Unit: Native American Academic and Leadership Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student involved in the American Indian, Alaska Native and First Nations community at Western and who contributes to the community through their work, volunteerism, and/or studies in a way that enhances culturally centered programs, provides a sense of community, and/or furhters social justice for the American Indian, Alaksa Native and First Nations community.

Associated Students (AS) Campus Activities Award

A $1000 scholarship is awarded to a student who is able to whow past and/or present experience and involvement in campus activities at WWU.

To be considered for this scholarship:

  • Applicants must be a full-time WWU student (12 undergraduate or 8 graduate credits quarterly) for at least two quarters of the 2022-2023 academic year and attend at least one quarter of the year of the award (2023-2024).
  • Applicants must be in good standing at the end of winter quarter 2023.

Associated Students (AS) KUGS Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to two deserving students involved as a volunteer or working at KUGS-FM 89.3. The recipients demonstrate financial need and a commitment to college/student operated radio, as exhibited by their involvement in KUGS.

  • Applicants must be a full-time WWU student (12 undergraduate or 8 graduate credits quarterly) for at least two quarters of the 2022-2023 academic year and attend at least one quarter the year of the award (2023-2024).
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing at the end of winter quarter 2023.

Graduate Tuition Waiver

The university offers a number of scholarship programs that are not restricted to a specific major or department. Awards of $1,000 are made by the Dean of the Graduate School to students of superior ability admitted to a Master's degree program. Students do not apply but are nominated for these awards by advisors of graduate programs and should contact advisors for more information. Recipients must enroll for a minimum of 8 credit hours per quarter.
