The WASFA has transitioned to a new application platform beginning with the 2027-2028 academic year.
WASFA filers must have a WA.gov account to file the 2027-2028 WASFA.
What is the WASFA?
The WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) is for students who choose not to file a Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA). If an eligible student has already filed a FAFSA, they do not need to submit a WASFA as the FAFSA is the application for federal and state aid for WA State Residents. Students who complete a WASFA are only applying for state financial aid. If a student is eligible for federal aid, completing the FAFSA could maximize potential financial aid offers.
Students who are eligible to file a FAFSA do not need to file a WASFA.

WASFA Priority Filing Date
Meeting the Priority Filing Date best ensures your eligibility for some types of financial aid that may not be available to those who file a WASFA after this date.
Financial aid applicants must submit their Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) by January 31 each year to best ensure eligibility for financial aid for the upcoming academic year. While several factors determine eligibility for financial aid, meeting the Priority Filing Date is one factor that may impact a student's eligibility.
