What is the WASFA?
The WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) allows students who are ineligible for federal financial aid due to immigration status to apply for state financial aid.
Completing the WASFA enables eligible students to be considered for the Washington College Grant, as well as other state and institutional aid. Financial aid for undocumented students is limited, so note the WASFA opening and priority filing date.
For students who are eligible but do not feel comfortable filing a FAFSA, they may use a WASFA to apply for state aid but will not qualify for federal financial aid. This may result in significantly reduced eligibility.
Students who are eligible to file a FAFSA do not need to file a WASFA.
For additional information and resources, contact the WWU Scholarship Center or visit their website. Scholarship Center staff are available to assist undocumented students in the application process and create financial aid offers for WASFA filers.
WASFA Priority Filing Date
Meeting the Priority Filing Date best ensures your eligibility for some types of financial aid that may not be available to those who file a WASFA after this date.
Financial aid applicants must submit their Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) by January 31 each year to best ensure eligibility for financial aid for the upcoming academic year. While several factors determine eligibility for financial aid, meeting the Priority Filing Date is one factor that may impact a student's eligibility.
